The “Chance” program is a complex preparation of teenage orphans for independent life after graduation from an orphanage. The wards of the foundation have an interest in studying, dreams and the desire to live better. “The arithmetic of good” does not leave graduates after graduation. They know that in the fund they are always welcome and ready to help.
80% of orphans are teenagers. For a successful preparation for independent living, they need the help of an adult. We train mentors for pupils and graduates of orphanages.
To feel affection, to be needed and loved – are very important needs for every person, and especially for the child. Orphans have no significant adults to whom they are truly dear. And to meet such a person when you live in the confined space of an orphanage is not easy.
Now there are many adults who want to do something good for children in orphanages, and the most correct choice in this case is to become a friend. After all, when we are sad and lonely, we, first of all, want warmth and care.
A mentor is a senior reliable friend who helps with advice and deed, spends time with a child, takes a visit. It is important for a child that a person communicates with him, not because it is his work, but because he, the child, is important and interesting to someone. In such a relationship, children begin to show interest in life, in learning, and making plans for the future.
For a successful device in society, we need a long period of regular communication between a teenager and a mentor. Relationship is important to continue after graduation from the orphanage. We focus on long-term interaction of mentors and their wards – at least 1 year. This will create a sustainable social environment for young people. And for some of the adults will be the first step towards a responsible decision to take a teenager from an orphanage to there family.
The main objective of the Family program is the family placement of orphans and support for foster families during the search, adoption and adaptation phases of a child.
Within the program, the Foster Family Club operates, in which parents and candidates for adoptive parents can communicate in the “Equal to Equal” format, get the missing knowledge and make new acquaintances among adoptive parents, which can be very useful during times of crisis with children.
In the consulting center, psychologists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, sensory therapists and other specialists carry out comprehensive work with adoptive parents, starting with training in the PDS and ending with accompanying the family during different periods of growing up. The center conducts group workshops, therapeutic groups and child-parent trainings, as well as individually advising each member of the foster family.
In December 2014, the Fund opened a group of resource support for foster families — foster parents club. The club organizes lectures, speeches, meetings and seminars aimed at educating parents and getting to know children from orphanages.
Currently, clubs are open and operating in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Tver Oblast, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Pushkino, Elektrostal and Ulan-Ude.
The club implements a unique format of trips, during which potential adoptive parents can get acquainted and communicate in an informal setting with teenagers from orphanages, thereby helping the device in the family of one of the most difficult categories of orphans.
One of the goals of the foundation is to form foster parents’ clubs in the regions and transfer them the experience of effective work of such communities. The main principle of the work of foster parents – equal helps equal.
Twice a year, the foundation organizes internships for active adoptive parents and interested NPOs from the regions. For three days, the foundation’s experts tell us how to build the club’s work, form resource groups for adoptive parents, organize acquaintances for children and candidates for adoptive parents, how to work with the local administration and the press, and so on.
